  5. The curtain came up, Belew came out and said something like "We're the Bears. This is our first show. I hope you like us." They then proceeded to play an exhilirating set of power pop. Years later this album came out and I immediately recognized the material. The songs still sound fresh after all these years/5(10).

  7. This is a very good album, still though, The Bears don't come close to matching their live intensity when they're in the studio. The Bears are essentially the touring band for Adrian Belew, one of the worlds greatest guitarists (really he is, you should check him out) With The Bears, the music isn't anywhere near as complicated as Belew's solo or King Crimson ventures.

  9. The debut album from the Bears is a solid slice of great guitar-driven pop tunes. Although Adrian Belew was seen nominally as the frontman, this was truly a band; four friends who had known each other for years, playing for pure joy. Songwriting duties were shared, with each member contributing at least one track, and they also wrote several together as a team.
